My accidental discovery...

The other day we ran out of dishwasher detergent, and I didn't feel like running out to the store, so I did a google search for "homemade dishwasher detergent" and found a recipe:

  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup salt
I had all those things lying around the house, and so I made some, and it works well-- quite a bit better than some of the cheapo dishwasher detergent brands we've tried over the years, actually.  I did some price comparisons at Walmart and it's roughly a third the cost of the dishwasher detergent we had been buying, so I think we're going to stick with it.  As an added perk, we can use the borax to make crystals one of these days.
